English Abstract The research summary titled "Deepening Local Industrialization in Egypt: An Analytical Summary of the Project's Main Report" (July 2023) examines deepening local industrialization as a crucial national imperative to foster sustainable, self-reliant economic development and structural transformation in Egypt. Based on a comprehensive three-year study by the Institute of National Planning, the project addresses the historical stagnation of Egypt’s manufacturing sector—which has remained near 14–17% of GDP for nearly half a century—characterized by a high reliance on imported intermediate inputs, low technological intensity in exports, and geographic centralization. Emphasizing a "self-reliant developing country" model, the study highlights key missing and weak links in transitioning industrial strategies into practice, including fragmented institutional and legislative frameworks, weak alignment between academic research and industrial output, inadequate long-term financing, limited market scale, and underdeveloped technical training systems. While acknowledging successful Egyptian experiences across ten key sectors—including electronics, automotive, medical devices, heavy metals, machinery, petrochemicals, home appliances, pharmaceuticals, textiles, and food industries—the report emphasizes that long-term progress requires a coordinated, multi-faceted strategy.
