Abstract
The conference was organized by the National Planning Institute in collaboration with the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University, discussing various issues, including the importance of health and sustainable development in light of global challenges. The world is still far from achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly the third goal related to health, as one billion people in developing countries suffer from a lack of healthcare, which exacerbates poverty. In Egypt, the constitution guarantees the right to health, and 10% of public spending has been allocated to health sectors, reflecting the state's commitment to improving the healthcare system. Significant progress has also been made in some health indicators, such as maternal and child mortality rates, thanks to presidential health initiatives. However, challenges remain, such as funding shortages, the absence of necessary legislation, and a lack of healthcare professionals. The conference focused on discussing the relationship between health and sustainable development through four main themes: the first addresses the role of health in promoting sustainable development, emphasizing methodological issues and international experiences; the second focuses on the economics of health, funding, and investment in the health sector; the third discusses health governance and its role in improving performance and efficiency; and the fourth centers on the state of health in Egypt and the role of presidential health initiatives. Academics, experts, government entities, and civil society organizations participated in the conference to enhance collaboration and achieve sustainable development goals.
