This study provides an overview about the relationship between the Egyptian exports, competitiveness and the commitment to the environmental standards. It aims at evaluating this relationship by focusing on two industrial activities, spinning& weaving and clothes as well as foodstuffs industries. A field study has been undertaken using a sample of 17 firms. The main findings of the study assert the positive relationship between the Exports` competitiveness and the compliance with environmental requirements. The firms that applied quality and environmental regulations have succeeded in penetrating new International world markets and increased their export volumes. Although some firms have experienced increasing costs of production with compliance with the environmental system, they could raise efficiency and productivity. Special efforts are needed to strengthen environment regimes and mitigate problems that arise particularly for small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs).
