2012. The cement industry is one of the main pillars of the important in the
Egyptian economy because of their essential role and influential in the
implementation of programs of economic and social development and the
establishment of the basic infrastructure needed for projects, production and
service, due to the availability of the elements of the cement industry in Egypt,
such as: the availability of raw materials of cement in abundance, as well as
the energy required and skilled workers trained low-wage compared to those
in developed countries, which encouraged the state to establish many cement
factories starting in 1921. However, it is monitored that the energy production
does not meet the overall demand, prompting the state to expand in the
industry to keep up with growing demand for the national developmental
projects, especially during fifties and sixties such as the High Dam project.
The public sector has undertook this responsibility and beyond the general
business sector year until the number of companies producing cement to seven
public sector companies and one private sector company. With the adoption of
the state to the privatization policy beginning in 1996 by selling public sector
companies producing cement with the exception of National Cement
Company, resulting in the acquisition of foreign and multinational companies
the control of the cement industry in Egypt.
