Abstract

The study explores early economic growth models, emphasizing key concepts from institutional and policy discussions. These include the surplus labor time available for modern activities, the "low-level equilibrium trap" caused by population dynamics, and the necessity of a "big push" to escape this trap. It addresses indivisibilities and externalities that create investment lumpiness, debates on balanced vs. unbalanced growth, the optimal national savings rate, and ways to adjust to the uneven factor endowments of developing countries. The study highlights the need to carefully examine these assumptions and compare them against existing knowledge to build more accurate and effective growth models.
