يشكل قطاع الزراعة أهمية كبيرة في إقتصاديات دول مجلس التعاون العربي . ومع هذه الاهمية تعاني دول مجلس التعاون العربي من النقص في السلع الزراعية. كما تعد من الدول المستوردة للغذاء بصفة أساسية بل وبعضها يعتمد بصفة رئيسية على الواردات مع تزايدها سنة بعد آخرى. والاعتماد على الواردات في توفير الاحتياجات أو جانب أساسي من السلع الغذائية الاستراتيجية له مخاطرة سواء ما يتعلق بالنواحي الاقتصادية أو السياسية The agricultural sector is of great importance to the economies of the GCC countries. Despite this importance, the GCC countries suffer from a shortage of agricultural commodities. They are also countries that primarily import food, and some of them depend primarily on imports, which are increasing year after year. Relying on imports to meet needs or a basic aspect of strategic food commodities has risks, whether related to economic or political aspects.
