Abstract

A memorandum by Dr. Manfred Engert was published in June 1964 regarding the classification of industry in socialist countries (Memo No. 450). The memorandum discusses certain issues related to the classification of industry and its products. The purpose of the study is to clarify the classification system with examples. However, it was not possible to provide a comprehensive overview of the system at the time, as the drafting process had not been completed. Therefore, this memorandum should be seen as a supplement to Memo No. 450, which contains a detailed classification of industry. The submitted memorandum outlines the general classification of socialist economies, with industry categorized under the general heading "Industry," which includes subcategories like "Energy," while Memo No. 450 delves into more specific classifications such as "Electricity from thermal power stations."
