Abstract

This paper addresses the issue of adjusting depreciation for price changes in the Turkish national accounts. It raises two main questions: first, whether the lack of data necessary for a correct depreciation adjustment will hinder such attempts, or if there is a method that can approximate this adjustment using the available data. The author contends that an approximate method for depreciation adjustment exists, although organizing the collection of data for a more refined method may be challenging. It is noted that this method has already been applied to Turkish national figures, marking the first attempt of its kind in Turkey. The second question concerns whether adjusting depreciation for price changes will be quantitatively significant enough to justify the effort spent on calculations. The paper indicates that the adopted method works with minimal existing data, and as more data becomes available from recent studies on investment figures, the method could be applied in a more detailed manner
